Nez blackmails Council and joins the illegality

Nez blackmailing the Council

The Navajo Tribal Council met last week for its Winter Session in 2020.  Of particular interest was the President's report to the Council.  The Navajo Council passed several legislations to use the tribe's monies for capital improvement projects, to raise debt ceiling limits, to amend plans of operations, and a public restroom law.  The President vetoed those legislations.  The Council met in a special session to override some of those vetoes.  In the 2020 Winter Session, the Council attempted to override the other legislations that were vetoed by the President.  However, before the Winter Session started, the President's staff gave copies of an unfiled restraining order that would have prevented the Council from considering the two override legislations.  During his report, President Nez threatened to file the restraining order in court if the Council did not "work together" with him.  ("Delegates: Prez threatened threatened restraining order if vetoes overriden") The law requires that override legislations must be considered at the next "regular session".  President Nez said that the veto legislations passed at the special session or the current veto legislations would have to be illegal depending on what "regular session" means.  President Nez said he wanted the Council to "work with" him or else he would file the restraining order.   Through the discussion, President Nez said he will not file the restraining order because there was no need to, he saw that the Council was working with him.

Deciding not to file the restraining orders was a bad decision by Prez-Nez because the override legislation that was passed in the special session remains uncertain as a valid legislation. The Council working with the President does not make those legislations valid. It's like the President is crying to his siblings that he wants to play, or else he is going to tell mommy about their wrongdoing. The Council is keeping the ball away from him. But allowing the President to play does not fix the wrongdoing. In fact, the President just becomes a part of the crime when he is allowed to play. Can't we get it? We just witnessed blackmailing right before our eyes and we saw fear in several Council Delegates' eyes. We saw the delegates keeping the ball away from Nez. Nez complained about not being invited to the B & F Committee meetings. Delegate Daniel Tso cut off Nez elaborating on his threat, “Point of privilege!”. Delegate Yellowhair also pulled the clan card, "You don't talk back to your father when he's speaking to you."

It would be great if a concerned Navajo citizen comes forward and files a lawsuit asking for clarification of the law, and restraining our elected leaders from both branches from committing further wrongdoing until the law is clarified. Someone needs to tell mommy.
