Navajo Justice Department defends against bordering jurisdictions from infringing on Navajo sovereignty

This is something pretty interesting.  The Navajo Department of Justice filed a friends brief in an off reservation attorney malpractice  case involving a White attorney’s practice of law within the Navajo reservation. (Sam vs. Ledbetter Firm)  The tribe is saying that the outside jurisdiction is meddling with tribal reservation affairs so that there’s an infringement on Navajo Nation sovereignty.  The Navajo has its own tribal bar association and courts to regulate the practice of law within the reservation.  White people cannot just go to state courts to avoid the tribal courts.  If the state courts decide that the case can avoid tribal jurisdiction, then this case may be filed in federal court.  Alternatively, the tribe may consider excluding non-Navajo attorneys from the tribal bar association.  Can they do this?  There would be all sorts of civil rights claims like it was the 4th of July. Pretty interesting case, how our tribal lawyers are defending our tribal sovereignty!  Way to go DOJ!  We need to be vocal and defensive about protecting our tribe from outsiders encroaching.  I wish we could be the same way about some of our own people who attack our nation from within.

Navajo "Holy Lands" are not in Israel

It is a disappointment that Jonathan Nez went to Israel, a foreign land, to visit the "Holy Lands". He claims that his trip was funded privately, but he did not go in his private capacity. Instead he went in his "official capacity" as Navajo Nation President, as a representative of the Navajo People, and the Navajo Nation. It's disappointing that our elected-leader considers a foreign land as the Holy Land. What about the Holy Land of the Navajo? I am not talking about Jerusalem. I am talking about all the sacred sites in between and around the four sacred mountains that our ancestors considered sacred. Mr. Nez and Mr. Lizer both need a basic history lesson on role of the Christian Church in the European Genocide of Native America. If he hasn't looked around, he has been elected to lead the largest Native American tribe in the US. He was not elected to lead a European fraternity, or a City Parish, but a Native American nation. Nez and Lizer are not good role models for our young Dine. By visiting and calling foreign lands as the Navajo Holy Lands, they add to our People's confusion about Dine tribal identity. Last year, Vice President Lizer publicly denounced the Gay and Lesbian Community on television. (Click on video below) Lizer stated, "I just go back to the truth of the Bible and what does that say, God's always my bottom line whenever I am in doubt". I am not sure if the Lesbian and Gay Community continue to support Lizer-Nez Administration, but there are some Lesbian and Gay Community members in their cabinet. It bewilders me, but it's just plain wrong for a Native American leader to call some foreign land the “Holy Lands”.  Has this leader lost touch with himself and his people?

Kansas City Homosapiens win Superbowl 2020

The Great Spirit made Kansas City the NFL Champions to show us how racist our society still is in the year 2020, especially the sports industry, the franchise, its owners, and the millions of fans who are whites, blacks, Mexicans, and Indians.  Forget about America being "home of the brave".  It's more like "home of the cowards".  We can't even stand up to these race issues.  We still have a lot of work to do.

Nez blackmails Council and joins the illegality

Nez blackmailing the Council

The Navajo Tribal Council met last week for its Winter Session in 2020.  Of particular interest was the President's report to the Council.  The Navajo Council passed several legislations to use the tribe's monies for capital improvement projects, to raise debt ceiling limits, to amend plans of operations, and a public restroom law.  The President vetoed those legislations.  The Council met in a special session to override some of those vetoes.  In the 2020 Winter Session, the Council attempted to override the other legislations that were vetoed by the President.  However, before the Winter Session started, the President's staff gave copies of an unfiled restraining order that would have prevented the Council from considering the two override legislations.  During his report, President Nez threatened to file the restraining order in court if the Council did not "work together" with him.  ("Delegates: Prez threatened threatened restraining order if vetoes overriden") The law requires that override legislations must be considered at the next "regular session".  President Nez said that the veto legislations passed at the special session or the current veto legislations would have to be illegal depending on what "regular session" means.  President Nez said he wanted the Council to "work with" him or else he would file the restraining order.   Through the discussion, President Nez said he will not file the restraining order because there was no need to, he saw that the Council was working with him.

Deciding not to file the restraining orders was a bad decision by Prez-Nez because the override legislation that was passed in the special session remains uncertain as a valid legislation. The Council working with the President does not make those legislations valid. It's like the President is crying to his siblings that he wants to play, or else he is going to tell mommy about their wrongdoing. The Council is keeping the ball away from him. But allowing the President to play does not fix the wrongdoing. In fact, the President just becomes a part of the crime when he is allowed to play. Can't we get it? We just witnessed blackmailing right before our eyes and we saw fear in several Council Delegates' eyes. We saw the delegates keeping the ball away from Nez. Nez complained about not being invited to the B & F Committee meetings. Delegate Daniel Tso cut off Nez elaborating on his threat, “Point of privilege!”. Delegate Yellowhair also pulled the clan card, "You don't talk back to your father when he's speaking to you."

It would be great if a concerned Navajo citizen comes forward and files a lawsuit asking for clarification of the law, and restraining our elected leaders from both branches from committing further wrongdoing until the law is clarified. Someone needs to tell mommy.
